Masthead Typography Target Group Feedback - Main Task
I have showed a variety of different fonts to my target group on which fonts are most ideal for a rap/hip-hop magazine. Since there was too many fonts to narrow the most suitable font, I had asked them to choose their top 3 fonts. The two fonts, Eras Bold ITC and Stencil were popular choices among my target group. This is because they have that grime-like and rugged feel to them which makes it suitable for the genre of magazine chosen. I would not choose them as the gaps within the letters, especially in stencil, make them appear as child-like because children tend to use them when producing posters or artwork. Another popular choice within the target group was the font named Impact. This is popular because it has that block and bold appearance. However, I would not consider using it as it is smaller than the other fonts when they are at the same size. Wide Latin was a font which a few people had suggested would be good due to its sharp curves on the edge of the letters. On the other hand, I would not consider using it since it is too stretched across the page for it to be clear enough. Furthermore, two other fonts, Berlin Sans FB Demi and Copper Black, had a mention. Despite them both being clear fonts, I would not consider using them as my target group do not recommend for them to be used. Overall, my final decision for my typography will be Eras Bold ITC because its appearance relates to the genre of music.
Masthead Name Target Group Feedback - Main Task
I have asked my target group which name is most suitable for a rap/hip-hop magazine. The names consist of Empyrean, Rap Related, VMM - Visionary Music Magazine, Influence. I have chosen the name Empyrean as most artists in this genre of music wear religious jewellery like a chain of the cross and empyrean is defined as the highest point in heaven according to mythology. I have chosen the name Rap Related because it corresponds to the genre of music and the inspiration of the name has come from a song by Logic called 'Gang Related'. I have chosen the name VMM - Visionary Music Magazine as it relates to seeing visions in a dream, how the musician envisions their music to be at its best. I have chosen the name Influence because it relates to how other rappers and hip-hop artists are influenced and inspired by their role model.
